As promised, here is a model presentation on Stokely Carmichael, a civil rights activist who was radicalized by the injustice he witnesses in many Southern towns during the mid 1960s. Though he started as an ally to the likes of Martin Luther King Jr, he wound up coining the term “black power” and becoming a proponent of Pan-Africanism. These are all elements which show up in Ralph Ellison’s novel. Take a look at this presentation and let me know if you have questions.
The presentation is structure around the three key questions from the assignment sheet:
- Who is the person? What did they do? When did they do it? Where was it done?
- What were the person’s views on social justice, equality?
- Why are their contributions important to the fight for social justice?
